Wishing to touch a sun
That they can feel but not see
Up and up, stretching, grow the trees.
Never realizing the distance,
Continually reaching
Feeling as entitled as any prince
Never giving up
Because no one has pointed out
The hole in the bottom of the trees' cups.*
* With the phrase "the hole in the bottom of the trees' cups," I am trying to emphasize how ridiculous the trees' struggle to reach the sun is. There is no way they would be able to reach the sun, no matter how much they grow. Until someone points out the impossibility of the feat that they are attempting is, they will continue striving to reach it until they themselves realize the impossibility. Just as if someone was pouring water into a cup that had a hole in it no matter how much they poured, the cup would never fill up, until someone pointed out the hole or the person realized the hole for themselves.
