Change.
It is uncomfortable
Because it is unknown.
Unpredictable,
Yet constant,
You cannot escape it.
In order for improvement
You must accept it.
It feels strange,
Because it is different.
But one thing will not change,
And that is:
Change.

An Ancient Lover
The sun embraces me,
Each ray of heat enveloping my body.
Like a lover, he greets me,
Chasing off the shadows and the cold,
He strives to reach every part of me,
To touch and memorize each inch.
At times his eager embraces
Cause people to hide themselves from his intensity;
And at times he holds back his warmth,
Acting cold and unloving to all.
His distance is what causes me to yearn,
But if he were to be any closer
My love for him would wane,
And yet from his distance
He embraces me,
Each ray of heat enveloping my body.
Each ray of heat enveloping my body.
Like a lover, he greets me,
Chasing off the shadows and the cold,
He strives to reach every part of me,
To touch and memorize each inch.
At times his eager embraces
Cause people to hide themselves from his intensity;
And at times he holds back his warmth,
Acting cold and unloving to all.
His distance is what causes me to yearn,
But if he were to be any closer
My love for him would wane,
And yet from his distance
He embraces me,
Each ray of heat enveloping my body.
The Trees
Wishing to touch a sun
That they can feel but not see
Up and up, stretching, grow the trees.
Never realizing the distance,
Continually reaching
Feeling as entitled as any prince
Never giving up
Because no one has pointed out
The hole in the bottom of the trees' cups.*
* With the phrase "the hole in the bottom of the trees' cups," I am trying to emphasize how ridiculous the trees' struggle to reach the sun is. There is no way they would be able to reach the sun, no matter how much they grow. Until someone points out the impossibility of the feat that they are attempting is, they will continue striving to reach it until they themselves realize the impossibility. Just as if someone was pouring water into a cup that had a hole in it no matter how much they poured, the cup would never fill up, until someone pointed out the hole or the person realized the hole for themselves.
That they can feel but not see
Up and up, stretching, grow the trees.
Never realizing the distance,
Continually reaching
Feeling as entitled as any prince
Never giving up

Undying Love
Pondering the mysteries
Of different people's histories
Reflecting on the past
Long after the die has been cast
The future is always one step ahead
The past behind, but still not quite dead
But the present is here
This is no time for crippling fear
Hoping past mistakes are never repeated
Every time that a situation gets heated
Strength for the day is found in one place
From Someone whose heart is filled with mercy and grace
Remember the Lord, the One high above
For strength is found only in His undying love.

Beauty Defined
What is beauty?
It is for each person
Different,
And yet we look to others
To define our vision of beauty;
Asking everyone, but
Ourselves,
"What is beauty?"
It is for each person
Different,
And yet we look to others
To define our vision of beauty;
Asking everyone, but
Ourselves,
"What is beauty?"
My Mother's Love
Never quite known,
You were always slightly out of reach,
But I feel you in my flesh and bone
Somehow my heart you did breach.
Unknown and yet familiar,
You were never around
And yet we are so similar
And your traits in me do abound.
I would reach out my hand
Tentative and wary
Across long stretches of land
And would find your unseen love quite extraordinary.
